Every year we are offered another amenity. A second pool, a branded toiletry line, a lobby installation. Almost every year we decline.
The temptation is to read restraint as thrift. It is the opposite: the costly part is maintaining a standard across fewer things, where there is nowhere for a lapse to hide. A house with three offerings and no failures is far harder to run than one with thirty and a tolerance for error.
